Astropolis is a Non-Profit Association (VZW), supported entirely by a number of (amateur) astronomers and a team of passionate volunteers, which generates its income from the sale of entrance tickets for a visit to the museum, workshops, lectures, viewing evenings, excursions, screenings and the organization of various events. Other income is obtained from the sale of drinks and snacks in our Astrocafé (with terrace) and the sale of educational goods through a physical and online shop. Despite this income, we cannot exist without the financial support obtained through subsidies and the contribution of funds by sponsors…
Astropolis has an extensive sponsorship file specifically intended for small and large companies. Because every company, regardless of budget, can support our educational work and immediately put itself in the spotlight. Interested?

Lifelong sponsor – City of Ostend
When we were told in 2010 that we had to leave the room in which our association was housed due to the sale of the building, there turned out to be no room available in our city. The only possible options were: a) to cease to exist as an association or b) to try to build their own modest classroom. Logically we chose the second option as our passion for astronomy and space travel – after more than a quarter of a century – was still very strong. Eleven years later, after countless meetings, files, discussions, plans, research, sweat and even a few tears, thanks to the then city council, we managed to set up a unique educational project called: Astropolis!
Lifelong sponsor – Himpe
Construction company Himpe from Loppem, together with site manager Mike Kerkaert (and employees), architect Pieter-Jan Peeters from Studio Kanada and architect Lesley Sanders from the city of Ostend, ensured that the innovative building was delivered perfectly within time and budget. Something that did not appear to be obvious for a long time, but was achieved thanks to smooth communication and weekly local follow-up. We are extremely grateful to them…
10 Years sponsor (until the end of 2029) – IZEN
iChoosr / IZEN is a company that offers innovative renewable energy technologies in Belgium and the Netherlands. The company was so impressed by our educational, innovative and sustainable project that it sponsored no fewer than 40 solar panels (including installation). This allows us to moderate high energy costs somewhat and mainly produces part of our own energy. Who knows, maybe one day we will become completely energy neutral…
10 Years sponsor (until the end of 2029) – EWI
The Department of Economy, Science & Innovation, led at the time by Minister Crevits, gave us a one-off start-up premium for the partial furnishing of the building. They therefore make a distinction between our astronomical and space-oriented activities and those of traditional public observatories. With this start-up premium we were mainly able to finance the practical furnishings…
5 year sponsor (until the end of 2024) – National lottery
The National Lottery sponsored us, allowing us to realize the multilingual ‘Race to the Moon’ XPO in our large exhibition space. This was done with the support of the company Space Application Services, which lent us the LUVMI lunar rover. This XPO has already been visited by several tens of thousands of people, including many students …
5 Year Sponsor (until end of 2024) – BIRA-IASB
The BIRA, or Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy, has been a highly valued partner and sponsor since the building was built. Together we support each other in various scientific projects, including research into meteors and soon also, together with the RMI, the accurate detection of local UV values intended for climatological research …
Annual sponsor (until the end of 2024)
Soft drinks giant Coca Cola has supported us since the first hours of our opening and continues to do so to this day. They are a particularly valued sponsor who even thinks along with us on promotional matters and have given us many interesting tips during the start-up of our astrocafe. In addition to financial sponsorship, we can also expect annual sponsorship in goods…
